The Scoop
Brigham Young University is a private, church-sponsored research university in Provo, Utah. Founded in 1875 and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU combines a broad university curriculum with a religious mission and one of the most distinctive student cultures in American higher education. Its undergraduate enrollment of about 35,700 makes it one of the nation's larger private universities.
Academically, BYU is especially recognized for business, accounting, engineering, animation, the sciences, education, and language study. The university's comparatively low tuition is possible because of church support, although tuition differs for members and nonmembers of the sponsoring church. Students should understand the Honor Code before applying; it is not a peripheral policy but a central part of the residential and academic environment.
For the right student, BYU offers rigorous academics, a close-knit community, big-time Division I sports, and extraordinary access to the outdoors. A private campus tour with a current student is the best way to understand how its faith-centered mission, mountain setting, and large-university opportunities fit together.
SchoolScoops offers private, student-led Brigham Young University campus tours starting at $75 for one hour or $150 for two hours. Tours are available in person or by video chat and are led by a real, verified current BYU student of your choice.
