My name is Angel. I am a fourth year Marine Biologist major, currently volunteering in a research lab focusing on the biomechanics and energetics of fish. I love cooking and baking, with an emphasis on baking (cookies). My favorite thing to do near campus is tide pool at La Jolla Shores and my favorite restaurant on campus is Taco Villa.

Describe your college experience

I have explored the majority of UCSD. I take the shuttles often around campus, but mostly to my classes at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Although I cook a lot at home, the food on campus is very good and fair, and they are opening a lot more restaurants around campus I am looking forward to.

Tip for future students

Join the clubs, search intensively for what you are interested in and commit. Being in a club enhances your routine and connections while also allowing you to do what you enjoy during the school year.

Favorite class

The majority of the classes I have taken have been extremely memorable, but the class I enjoyed the most must have been Genetics (BICD100), with Christopher Day who unfortunately does not teach the class anymore. The class was challenging, allowing me to trauma bond and build a friend group with the best people I have ever met. Day is also a very supportive teacher; acknowledging the difficulty of the class, he never gave up on our willingness to learn.

Career goals

In the future, I hope to become a Principal Investigator in a lab conducting research on the kinematics of sea jellies. I want to study these cnidarians and what exactly makes them tick.

Ideal way to spend a free night

If I have no assignments one night, I love taking walks around campus, baking a new recipe, or inviting my friends to visit the Game Room at the Price Center.
