Senior Public Relations student who can tell you where to actually succeed.

Hey there! I’m Maddy, a communications student here at Brigham Young University. Spoiler alert: I didn’t always want to end up here. As an Utah native I felt it was my calling to explore other places, that is, until I fell in love with campus and all it had to offer. If I’m not studying away, I love rock climbing and bouldering. Following that theme, I love backpacking and camping with my best friends and my husband, and we can tell you all the great options near campus. As a first generation college student, I know navigating a new campus can be confusing, but trust me, BYU makes every step worth it. Let me show you around!

Describe your college experience

I applied to BYU while on a service mission for my church in Taiwan, I was able to smoothly transition in the fall to some off campus housing, and as a first generation college student, BYU has made everything so easy to understand and accessible.

Tip for future students

As a first generation college student, there are a LOT of things! I would definitely recommend leaning on your academic advisor! They are amazing and can give you clarity every step of the way. I would also recommend making friends with those you live around, because having a solid group can really make your college experience.

Favorite class

Professional Etiquette! BYU offers tons of Student Development classes, and this was one of them. I loved how applicable and interesting the course material was.

Career goals

As a PR major, my favorite thing is working with people, and no matter the job, I want to make sure I am doing that and making a positive impact on the world.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night is in the mountains! I love to backpack and hike, and the smell of campfire is exactly what home smells like to me. I’d love to be camping up some remote trail with my husband.

High school or secondary school

Skyridge High school

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the nature path than spans across the south side of campus. I love that you can get fresh air in nature while still walking to class.
