UTK Guide: Business, Greek Life & Campus Life
Hi! I’m Grace, a sophomore at the University of Tennessee studying business and involved in Greek life. I’m originally from Connecticut, so I know what it’s like to come to UTK from out of state and figure everything out for the first time. I’d love to help prospective students get an honest feel for campus life, classes, sorority recruitment, dorms, social life, and what it’s really like to be a Vol.

Describe your college experience
My transition to college has been exciting, challenging, and really rewarding. Coming to UTK from out of state, I had to adjust to being farther from home, meeting completely new people, and learning how to manage my schedule on my own. Joining Kappa Delta and getting involved on campus has made UTK feel much more like home and helped me build a strong community. So far, I’ve loved the energy of campus, the school spirit, and how many opportunities there are to meet people and get involved. College has already helped me become more independent, confident, and open to new experiences.
Tip for future students
One tip I would give future students is to say yes to things early on, even if they feel a little outside your comfort zone. Go to club meetings, introduce yourself to people in your classes, attend events, and try different organizations until you find what feels right. It can take time to find your people, but the more open you are, the faster campus starts to feel like home!
Favorite class
My favorite classes so far have been History of Rock and Writing in the Workplace. I loved my professors for both classes, and they each created such fun and engaging learning environments. History of Rock was especially interesting because I love music, so learning about different artists, genres, and the cultural impact behind songs made the class really enjoyable. Writing in the Workplace was also one of my favorites because it felt practical and helped me build professional communication skills that I know will be useful for internships, business, and future careers.
Career goals
After college, I hope to pursue a career in business, potentially in finance, investor relations, corporate communications, or a client-facing role. I’m interested in a career where I can combine strong communication skills with business strategy, relationship-building, and problem-solving. I’m still exploring exactly what path I want to take, but I know I want to work in a professional environment where I can keep learning, meet new people, and take on responsibility.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night is going downtown with friends to one of Knoxville’s great restaurants, doing a little shopping, and ending the night with ice cream at Cruze Farm.
