Fun-loving Civil Engineer that knows where to study and also enjoy the day

Hello! My name is Isaac Chomjak, and I am from North Salt Lake, Utah. I am a freshman studying Civil Engineering and am on track to graduate in 2030. I have grown to love walking through campus and finding the best places to sit and calm down, study for next day's exam, and to meet new people on the dance floor. I am a return missionary that is very excited to meet new people and explore how I can make the best of my time here at this wonderful university! I thoroughly have enjoyed my time here at BYU so far and am excited to continue my learning and devotion to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Describe your college experience

I returned from my mission a month ago and I went straight to moving in and preparing for classes. Within the week I started and I have been pleasantly surprised with the support for the students that there is here at BYU. Legitimately the professors want my individual success, and it is very cool to see that. I have met so many new people as well that I would spend time with and love to talk to.

Tip for future students

If the future student were to be a current high school student, I would recommend them to do the best they can in school because it really is gratifying seeing how much our efforts during high school have an effect on our higher learning. For others I would tell them to get ready for the need to focus and to really gain a love for learning. I didn't realize that the main motivation that I would have to have is for my own learning and mastery of the topics.

Favorite class

I thoroughly have enjoyed my time in my Geomatics class. It includes many things that interest me, but I am learning so many new things. It allows me to understand basic everyday things and be able to work around problems related to them.

Career goals

My dream would be to work at a water treatment plant or a sewage treatment plant. I would love to see my direct efforts in designing or leading a team would affect the daily workings of people in a community.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I would love to get together with my family or friends and go to some cool or niche thing that is available. I also love food so I would definitely get some food.

High school or secondary school

Woods Cross High School

Favorite spot on campus

I really like the Clyde Building. I honestly have spent the majority of my time there but it's cool because everyone is there to lock in and get things done. It has areas of personal study and work as well as labs and group idea settings.
