Delaney - University of Tennessee Tour Guide

Hi! My name is Delaney, and I am going into my junior year at UTK. I am majoring in Journalism and Media with a concentration in sports. I am super involved with Torch Sports, a division of The Volunteer Channel, and I am also an intern at Tennessee Athletics. I produce tours of athletic facilities on campus for Torch Sports, so being a tour guide is nothing new to me! I love being a student at UT and I am absolutey in love with campus. I would love to be able to share it with students who are thinking about applying!

Clubs, organizations & involvement

- NCAA Division 1 Rowing I was recruited to row D1 at UTK out of high school. I spent my first semester of freshman year on training with the team. While it was an incredible opportunity and experience, I realized I did not have time to partake in other activities on campus. Leaving the team was a difficult decision, but I do believe it was the right call. - The Volunteer Channel (Torch Sports) I have been an active member of Torch Sports since my freshman year, and I am happy to have recently been selected for a leadership position for the 2026-2027 school year. I will officially take over as the Digital Content Manager this fall. I create tons of content for our social media pages, and my favorite projects that I get to work on are my facility tours. I work directly with student athletes as they show us around their given team's training center. - 151 Creative One of my two internships with Tennessee Athletics is under the 151 Creative Social Media team. I help cover content atmosphere on game days for several sports. - SEC Network My second internship with Tennessee Athletics is with SEC Network, which is ran by ESPN. This position allows me to get hands-on experience with broadcast production in the studio as well and operating cameras on the field.

Describe your college experience

I have had the best time at Tennessee. There are so many opportunities for students to get involved, and there truly is a club or organization for everyone. Going to football games with my friends has definitely been a staple of my experience so far. I would recommend UTK to genuinely anybody.

Tip for future students

Something I wish I knew is that is really is not hard to make friends. I, along with everyone else, was scared that I wouldn't find my people. The people on campus are super friendly and there is an overall amazing vibe and energy everywhere you go. Moving to college is a scary experience for everybody, but there is genuinely nothing to worry about when coming to UT.

Favorite class

My favorite class was JMED 484 Sports, Media, and Society. My favorite professor was the one teaching it, which was a bonus. However, the reason I loved the class so much was because we spent most of the time having meaningful debates and hearing each other's opinions. A lot of my friends from Torch Sports were in the class as well. It definitely changed the way I look at sports and athletic events, because now I have a better understanding of the politics behind sports.

Career goals

After college, I hope to be working at ESPN as a Sports and Lifestyle Content Creator. I love being able to create content that makes people smile, and being able to do that at one of the world's biggest entertainment organizations would mean everything to me.

Ideal way to spend a free night

To be honest, I am not much of a party girl. I like to end my nights by working out, taking a nice shower, eating dinner, and then doing arts and crafts while watching Dance Moms. However, it is quite rare that I have a "free night" because I always find myself editing videos or creating new content.
