Hi! I'm Ruth, a UW student interested in studying Business. As someone who has explored UW both academically, and socially, I enjoy helping prospective UW students get a real, authentic view of what the next 4 years of their life is going to be like. I'm happy to share advice about classes, clubs, student housing, food spots, and adjusting to life in Seattle as someone who came from all the way across the world. Describe your college experience

My transition to college has been exciting and also very challenging. Moving from Bangalore to Seattle and starting at the UW pushed me to become more independent and adaptable. At first, adjusting to a new academic environment, campus culture, and city felt overwhelming, but over time I found my place through classes, student organizations, and meeting people from different backgrounds. UW has given me the chance to explore my interests in business, marketing, finance, and technology while also growing personally and socially.

Tip for future students

My biggest tip is to get involved early, even if it feels intimidating at first. Join clubs, go to events, talk to people in your classes (one thing I missed out on a lot during freshman year), and explore different parts of campus. College becomes much easier once you build a routine and find communities that make the campus feel smaller. Also, do not be afraid to ask questions because most students are figuring things out too.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes here has been Drama 101, I went in with no knowledge and the expectation of an easy, low-stakes 4.0 class, but it changed my perspective on drama and I truly enjoyed the class thoroughly.

Career goals

After college, I hope to pursue a career in business, with interests in marketing, finance, and strategy. I am especially interested in roles that combine analytical thinking with creativity, such as brand strategy, consulting, marketing analytics, or finance related work. Long term, I want to work in a role where I can help businesses grow, understand consumers, and make thoughtful strategic decisions.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night would be spending time with friends, getting good food, and either exploring Seattle or having a relaxed night in. I also enjoy quieter evenings where I can watch a movie, listen to music, or walk around campus when the weather is nice. For me, the best free nights are a balance of relaxing and spending quality time with people I enjoy.
