University of Washington Tour Guide

My name is Travis and I am a third-year student at the University of Washington - Seattle Campus. I have lived in Washington for most of my life and visited the campus every since I was young. As a current student, I know hidden gems that most people do not know about and can recommend study spots, restaurants, living spaces, and recreational places.

Describe your college experience

The transition from high school to college was a major change for me. I went from a short bus ride to an hour commute on the light rail up to Seattle. There was a lot more freedom in what classes I could take, how I plan out my day, and what activities I could do. University of Washington has a lot of events and recreational activities which helps people explore new unique activities and find new people. When I joined Husky Tennis Club or volleyball in the IMA, I met a lot of people that are my friends now. Also I find that a lot of people are really friendly here at UW.

Tip for future students

I wish I had known about all the clubs and RSOs that UW has to offer. There are so many clubs that happen and many of them lead events for anyone to join such as Taiwanese Student Association's Night Market. The surrounding city has plenty of unique cuisines and experiences as well.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been EE 201. While the lectures are somewhat bland (to be honest), the labs really shined. It was a hands on lab where we had complete freedom to build a line-following robot. The only requirements were that it could complete a course which was built by the professor. It let my group and I innovate by ourselves and learn by doing.

Career goals

I hope to be a full time Electrical Engineer or Software Developer.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I enjoy playing tennis and volleyball. If I am feeling indoorsy, I enjoy gaming and playing music on the piano. If I am with friends, I might go eat out or do something fun (bouldering for example!)
