Yosef A
Yosef ANew

Hello, everyone, my name is Yosef and I am an Ethiopian-American junior studying Economics and MS&E at Stanford University. Stanford was my dream college in high school and has lived up to everything I hoped for, both in obstacles and opportunities. In my free time, I love to play pickleball, chess, read, and watch random WSJ Youtube videos. I am an open-book about anything college- or Stanford-related so if you chat or tour with me, please bring any question you may have. Hope to see you soon.

Describe your college experience

My transition to college has been eventful and eye-opening in many ways such as learning that my social energy had a time limit or that friendships come and go. One of my favorite parts of the transition and my college experience so far is learning about the various possibilities that exist out there post-college such as the various roles that exist within the finance sector or the constantly-expanding world of startups that exist in this world. I have also enjoyed getting to form and reshape my personality as I grow into a fully-functioning and mature adult without supervision from my parents. I have made many mistakes and learned many new lessons such as being a better friend these past few years but Stanford has always been a safe space for me to grow freely with limited repercussions.

Tip for future students

WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Whatever ideas or visions for what you want to do in the future or goals that you want to achieve or even programs and positions you want to gain in school, write them down. Then, it becomes a tangible object that constantly reminds you of your aspirations and improve your chances of achieving them.

Favorite class

PSYC 60N: The Psychology of Stoked My favorite class so far has been this introductory seminar I took in my freshman winter quarter where we discussed various methods to attaining and retaining happiness in our day-to-day lives. It was a class that felt heavily focused on self-growth and strengthening relationships rather than a traditional textbook and homework class. It taught me many lessons such as the living a life with meaning rather than pleasure for eternal happiness.

Career goals

I am still learning about various roles in the public or private sector but I am open to working in: management consulting, economic consulting, private equity, or for a governmental firm like the IMF or the Federal Reserve.
