Hello! My name is Terissa and I am a rising Sophomore at GW! My major is Political Science and my minor is Sustainability. I have aspirations to go to law school and become an attorney. As an out of state student, I know how scary it seems to leave home and go off to school. Describe your college experience
College was definitely an adjustment for me. I am from New Jersey, so luckily the distance/commute has been made easy by public transportation such as buses and trains. However, it was still an adjustment being away from home, as my family and I are close. Additionally, I definitely had a learning curve from high school work to college level work, despite having taken AP classes in High School. I relearned how to study appropriately for my classes, and after some trial and error, my grades and my work ethic was completely transformed in a way I couldn’t be happier about.
Tip for future students
Rate my Professor (in my experience) is incredibly reliable. If multiple people have rated a professor poorly, I would highly reconsider taking a class with them, even if the material is easy.I wish I had known more about the difference between college and high school level work. In college, professors are understanding, but they aren’t there to hold your hand. You have to put the effort into going to office hours and asking questions.
Favorite class
My favorite class was Freedom in American Politics with Elizabeth Anker. She was an incredible speaker and made me question the world around me in perspectives I had never considered before.
Career goals
I hope to go to Law School and then become an Attorney.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night in college is to spend time with my friends. Whether we go do something in D.C. or just spend time together in someone’s dorm.
