STEM major who has had a class in just about every building on campus!

Hi, I'm Claire! I originally started school as a neuroscience major, and after shadowing, self-reflection, and a few major changes, I finally landed here, in the exercise and wellness area. I am currently a senior, and I am feeling really excited for my future career options! I had a hard time feeling at home at this university, but after branching out to try things I normally wouldn't, I found my place with my study abroad group! I now have friends everywhere I go, and campus feels so fun. I consider myself a homebody, though I wasn't always this way. In my first few years of college you would not catch me at home very often. I would take road-trips on the weekends, snowboard after class, and search for the best sunset viewpoints any chance I got. I have come to love this campus, and I am now very familiar with it. I have taken such a variety of classes during my time here that I know pretty much every building, and the fastest routes between them. I would love to show you around campus, answer all of your questions, and give you my best recommendations for food, classes, and study spots!

Describe your college experience

I have met so many good people and learned so much here. There are so many opportunities to learn things and be involved outside of classes, and especially outside of your major. I have made it a point to take classes that are unrelated to my major so I can continue having fun, and it has been fantastic.

Tip for future students

I would highly recommend mixing in fun classes every semester, along with your major classes! It gives your brain a break, and gives you something fun to focus on. Don't give up on your hobbies, either! It is important to take care of yourself and fill your cup. Besides that, I would highly recommend attending department seminars, as they can be very interesting and also fantastic opportunities to network! Shadowing is very important, as well, as that can change your entire opinion on what you would like to do with your future. It gives you a taste of the real world when it comes to your career!

Favorite class

I loved my anatomy class! It was fascinating, and I learned so much applicable information.

Career goals

I recently had an epiphany that being a PE teacher might be the perfect career for me! I would love to teach elementary or middle school. Besides that, I am also drawn to health coaching and personal training.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to relax and watch a movie, read a book, or do a puzzle. If the weather is nice, I also love any opportunity to be outside--whether that's at a park or just outside my apartment!
