I am a first-year undergraduate student at Stanford University and part of the class of 2029. I intend to major in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in biomechanics. I am part of student organizations on campus as well as employed part-time on campus. I am a first-generation college student from a low-income background and an economically disadvantaged community. I will be on campus during the summer!

Describe your college experience

As a first-generation college student from a low-income background, I entered college with little guidance on how to navigate the experience, which led to academic challenges early on. However, Stanford provided an incredible amount of academic support that helped me overcome those obstacles and come back stronger. Beyond academics, I have made countless unforgettable memories and had opportunities I never imagined possible, from going to Disneyland for free to experiencing so many moments that would not have happened without Stanford.

Tip for future students

Create a rough draft of your four-year academic graduation plan so you do not feel behind when selecting classes. This can be especially helpful at Stanford since some courses are only offered during specific quarters due to the quarter system. Also, try not to compare yourself to other students, as the competitive atmosphere can feel overwhelming. Instead, measure your success by your own growth and choose the path that feels right for you.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been COLLEGE 101, which is part of the required COLLEGE courses that students at Stanford have to take. Through the course, I read many engaging and informative texts, and I especially enjoyed discussing them in class. Hearing different perspectives from other students made the experience both enlightening and fun.

Career goals

I hope to get a master's or PhD in Biomedical Engineering or Bioengineering.
