Hi! I'm Isaac from the Catskills in the Hudson Valley region in NY. I loved growing up in the mountains, and I hike and go to swimming holes as much as I possibly can. I spend my days skating and snowboarding, playing bass guitar, and making electronic music, all incredibly warm communities from which I've made some of my closest friends. Additionally, I'm classically trained in ballet in modern dance, and I love choreographing pieces for myself and others!!

Describe your college experience

Coming from a small, mostly homogenous high school, the transition to Brown was jarring. The entirety of my first semester was a huge adjustment period, both intellectually and socially. The scope of students here include the utter extremes, and everything in between, and it warranted serious adjustment for me dealing with the jump in academic capability, course difficulty, and feelings of social insignificance. Slowly, this transitioned to an overwhelming appreciation for these things, which now I couldn't live without.

Tip for future students

While this is extremely concentration dependent, I have a few general ones for future Brown students. 1. Know your resources. Through Brown Library services you have access to SO much material, such as databases, publications, streaming services, etc. which contains enough information on ANYTHING your interested in to fill up a lifetime. 2. Explore campus. Find spots that really speak to you, this is what really dialed in my workflow this finals season. 3. Be proactive. If you are applying for a job, research position, course override etc. , make sure to email the professor or even go to there office hours, putting a name to a face is HUGE in you landing the position. 4. Don't be scared to take courses S​/​NC. Unless its your main concentration course, it's not that big of a deal. Most employers don't even know what it means. 5. Build a good relationship with your exploratory advisor. Very good for an early letter of recommendation.

Favorite class

I took a music seminar Genealogies of Noise, which is about the delineation of noise music and surrounding sonic theory. This course was tiny, essentially a nine person discussion figure headed by a very eccentric Ph.D. student. It was really intriguing how many seemingly unrelated topics we integrated, as the material itself was very disconnected from music entirely, and it felt philosophy focused as a whole. The listenings ranged from spectacular to harsh and unlistenable, which readings drawing from almost any discipline it seems (ex. Cardiology, AI, Political Science, Mathematics, Poetry, and many more). The assignments were entirely practice based, and allowed me to work on personal interests in analog synthesis and data sonification. Overall, I loved this collage of esoteric ontological expression, because at its core, thats what it felt like.

Career goals

I hope to work in environmental data science, or more generally in the quantitative earth sciences.
