Sociable Artificial Intelligence major (Jacobs School of Engineering) at UCSD!

Hey everyone, I'm Sahir! I'm a Bay Area native, a daily basketball player, and an AI major in Revelle College. I know the UCSD system like the back of my hand, from surviving rigorous CS and humanities courses to finding the best secret spots on campus. Going from knowing nobody to having a massive network across all eight colleges has been incredible, and I'd love to share my experience and give y'all a tour!

Describe your college experience

Transitioning from a high school with a total population of just 80 students and a graduating class of 15 to a large university was a massive shift, but it is one I have absolutely embraced. I love the scale of the campus and the incredible volume of opportunities it offers. I immediately dove in, building a strong network of friends through intramural sports, campus clubs, and simply connecting with people around campus. Academically, the environment has been just as rewarding. The rigor of my Computer Science courses is intense, and working alongside such brilliant, motivated peers consistently challenges me; their drive pushes me to elevate my own skills and continuously improve.

Tip for future students

Don't come to college with a ton of stuff! Rather, take the minimum you foresee yourself actually needing and then buy as you go. (Amazon is a huge help :)

Favorite class

I thoroughly enjoyed COGS 10, a course exploring the broader consequences of technology. It challenged me to think deeply about the relationship between cognition and our increasingly tech-driven society. Beyond the theoretical concepts, the class provided immense practical value by teaching me specific study methods and the cognitive science behind why they are effective.

Career goals

I am very interested in the world of startups and I aspire to create my own or work for an exciting startup!

Ideal way to spend a free night

I usually text my friends to hit up the rec center for some basketball. It’s my favorite way to decompress from classes and projects with some competitive play. Afterward, we always try to decide on food—which almost inevitably ends up being Chipotle—and we'll spend way too much time there just catching up on life, talking about the games, and hanging out.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the study rooms on the 21st floor of 8th college. it is the highest point on all of campus and balances a room where I can lock in on my studies with a beautiful sunset view of the Pacific ocean

Meeting point

Triton Fountain on the University of California San Diego campus
