Second year chemistry major at Northwestern University
Hey! My name is Darius Conconi, and I am a current second-year student studying chemistry at Northwestern University on the premed track. I am American, but I grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka, giving me a very unique but versatile understanding of what adjusting to college life can be like. Over my time at Northwestern I have fell in love with the school and I hope I can aid you in doing the same!

Describe your college experience
Coming from a very small graduating class of 27 students to Northwestern, I was initially very intimidated to enter this new environment. However, my freshman year was a fantastic time where I was able to form a very multicultural friend group between international students and Americans. In addition to my amazing friends, I chose to join a fraternity--a decision I never would have seen myself making when I first got in--which has been one of the best choices of my life. On the academic side of things, I really appreciate the rigor Northwestern STEM classes carry, and being in such an academically driven environment where all your peers are striving to do their absolute best.
Tip for future students
As cliché as it is, the best advice I could give is to step outside of your comfort zone. This could be in the form of trying a new sport, joining a club that interests you, taking a class that caught your eye, or even going out to places you never thought you would go to.
Favorite class
Chinese 121 (Second year) because I was learning a fascinating language I love with an amazing teacher that kept me engaged at all times.
Career goals
I plan to apply for medical school and become a licensed doctor.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be going out to a nice dinner with my friends and then either roaming around campus on a side quest or watching a stupid movie.
High school or secondary school
The Overseas School of Colombo (Colombo, Sri Lanka)
Meeting point
The Arch
