Ruby, a rising second-year on the Pre-Batten track.

Hi, I'm Ruby, a rising second-year here on the Pre-Batten track. I'm very outgoing I love to run, watch sports, hang out with friends, and read; I also love meeting and talking to new people. My friends always joke that I could talk to a brick wall. My friends would also describe me as funny, caring, and hardworking. I love to cook and bake and am always on the hunt for the newest viral recipe, and in my free time, I try to save some time to craft usually working on my latest needlepoint canvas. Not available until the fall (August 24th)!! Sorry for any inconvenience.

Describe your college experience

The transition to college has been a great experience overall. Adjusting to a new environment was tricky at first, different routines, independence from my family, and making new relationships, but I quickly learned to adapt. I've met a lot of new people and built relationships that have made the experience even better, and I feel like I've grown a lot since starting.

Tip for future students

My advice for future students: once a semester, take a class outside your comfort zone. In college, it's easy to stay focused on one area of study, but stepping outside that lane every now and then helps break up the density of your usual coursework and exposes you to ways of thinking you wouldn't otherwise encounter.

Favorite class

Black Holes! As a student on the Pre-Batten track, most of my classes are politics or history courses. I took this class knowing I had no interest in majoring in science. However, not only did I find an amazing professor, but the class also taught me a ton of cool information and changed the way I look at space.

Career goals

I hope to work in Washington, D.C., creating and informing policy, hopefully in the national security realm. After finishing my degree at UVA, I hope to attend law school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

A great night for me looks like going out to a nice dinner with friends, then ending the evening on the couch with my roommate, reading whatever book I'm currently into.

Favorite spot on campus

The Rotunda. Studying in there makes me feel immensely grateful for my life at UVA!
