Hello! My name is Krish, I am a rising Sophomore studying History and Political Science at Duke. I plan on obtaining a J.D.​/​PhD in Legal History and pursuing a career in Corporate Law or Academia. I'd love to help navigate the College Admissions process. I take an unorthodox approach to helping students stand out and focus on themes and messaging through essays and activities. I also want to help find students a College or University that best fits their personalities, academic styles, and personal preferences. Describe your college experience

I've had a wonderful time at Duke so far! Thankfully, being from North Carolina and attending North Carolina Governors' School helped me transition well into College. I've spent lots of time exploring Durham with friends, going out to events and get-togethers, and volunteering at museums and historic sites around Durham. I focus on having a good work-life balance by spending time with friends, but making time for studying and finishing schoolwork. I try to change up my study spots to keep myself productive. My girlfriend and I have been dating since the start of the school year, and I'm very excited to start my Sophomore year!

Tip for future students

One of the most important things for rising seniors thinking about college is not only academic fit, but also social and personal fit. College is four years, and it's extremely important to find a University that matches your personality along with your career goals. Focusing solely on rankings, prestige, or perceived benefits that are either superficial or dwarfed by things like quality of life, weather, and location can ruin your college experience. Think outside the box and focus on qualities that you know will make a difference. If you hate the cold and snow, UChicago and Cornell might not be the schools for you, and vice versa with warm schools like Duke, Vanderbilt, or Tulane. If you get overworked by competitive environments and don't want a 'pressure-cooker' environment, certain schools might not be for you. These qualities can make or break your experience, which is why researching schools and going on tours is so important!

Favorite class

My favorite class at Duke so far has to be Earth Sciences 101: The Dynamic Earth. Despite being a history major, taking an Earth Science class was not only fun but also very rewarding. I learned so much about the natural world, our Earth's geologic processes, and natural formations across different regions. The class had an amazing instructor, Dr. Klein, and our TA's were very helpful and open to meeting. I enjoyed taking a class that was outside my subject area, it was very refreshing to think in new ways and learn new kinds of information. The class was also pretty practical--whenever I go on hikes, I can point out different types of rocks and identify how they formed, and why they're there.

Career goals

I plan on pursuing a JD​/​PhD in Legal History, with the goal of either working in Corporate Law or becoming a Legal Historian​/​Academic. I've also thought about a career in Public Service, Educational Policy making, Public History, or Consulting.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Spending time with friends, whether it's by going out, doing a game night, or chilling and watching a movie. I like relaxing on weekend nights, especially after it's been a long week. Based on my schedule Freshman year, Mondays were normally my most active nights, where I'd spend time with friends, and Fridays were my quiet days, where I'd stay in and finish up on work or read a book.

High school or secondary school

I attended Marvin Ridge High School, a moderately large Public High School in Waxhaw, North Carolina. I also attended the North Carolina Governors' School, East Campus, at Meredith College in Raleigh for four weeks. I was a dual-enrollment student at South Piedmont Community College during High School, where I pursued an Associate of Arts.
