Rare outgoing Engineering student who loves to meet new people!

Hey there! My name is Peter Hoggan! I am a Sophomore here at BYU majoring in Electrical Engineering. Beyond just loving math and science I have loved my time working at the temple and being a server at Outback Steakhouse. I enjoy a good hike and am always trying to stay active whilst balancing the intense workload here at BYU!

Clubs, organizations & involvement

Unfortunately, I spent most my time last year scooping ice-cream at our very own BYU Creamery! I have been to several career fairs and explored several internships though! I have also been to several Y-Serve events and am now an expert quilt maker.

Describe your college experience

I have loved nearly every second since coming to BYU (Minus a few finals in the testing center). I love linking the gospel to each and every class and being able to share core values and experiences with classmates. I wholeheartedly believe that I can go up to nearly any student here and find some common ground and become friends.

Tip for future students

I would just recommend that they get out of their own way. BYU has at least 100 people capable of being your best friend if you are willing to put in the work and go find them. Embrace the awkward and go meet some people! Also, never be afraid of your academic advisor. They are here to make sure you can graduate as fast as you are comfortable with and only wish to help.

Favorite class

Portuguese 330 Intro to Brazilian Literature, for the amazing professor, Professor Jones, and the fun class environment and deep discussions. Even though I have no interest in changing my field from engineering, I loved the way the class challenged me to think and to engage with others!

Career goals

I want to work as an electrical engineer doing something meaningful. I have learned to serve during my mission to brasil and learned to love it since coming to BYU and finding more ordinary ways to help those around me. I will be happy if I am doing science to make the world a better place.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love going to the gym with my friends or hot tubbing with my wife and all our old roommates. If it is warm outside, a game of spike ball has to be played too.

High school or secondary school

Westview High School

Favorite spot on campus

2nd floor of the library. It's my personal homework dungeon. But besides that, I would have to say the Marriot center. I have been to every single devotional/forum since coming here to BYU. They are one of the highlights of my week.

Meeting point
