Hi! I’m Karm, a Lyman Briggs Human Biology major at Michigan State University on the pre-med track. As an out-of-state student who came to MSU with minimal connections, I know what it’s like to feel nervous about finding your place at a new school. I’d love to share what I’ve learned about getting comfortable on campus, meeting people, and making MSU feel like home. I’m also a pretty active person and enjoy playing basketball, running, and I am looking to get into some intramural sports, so if you have questions about activities, getting involved, or finding things to do around campus, I’d be happy to share some of my favorite experiences. I’m also a big sports fan, so if you’re planning on attending football or basketball games, I can give you some tips on navigating game day and making the most of the Spartan experience. I’m excited to share my experiences at MSU and help prospective students feel at home while exploring everything the university has to offer!

Describe your college experience

My college experience so far has been wonderful. Like every freshman I was concerned about the transition to college but Michigan State is great at making everyone feel at home. One of my favorite things about MSU is that there is always something to do on campus and you can meet new people everywhere.

Tip for future students

I think the big thing for future students is to reach out to someone who has done it before you. It’s normal to be nervous about starting a new chapter, but once you start it gets a lot easier and if you don’t figure something out someone else will. Also there are many packing lists online which I found very helpful.

Favorite class

My favorite class so far has been OST 450 (Intro to Global Health). The reason this class stood out to me is because it was a class I wasn’t expecting to enjoy as much as I did. Also, the professor of the class was amazing and building a relationship with him led to me enrolling in a study abroad trip in Mexico, which he led, that was a great experience.

Career goals

I plan on going to medical school after undergrad, hopefully at MSU, and then pursuing a job as a primary care physician.

Ideal way to spend a free night

On nights where I have nothing to do I would usually go and play basketball with friends and​/​or hang out in someone’s dorm before walking around campus and looking for side quests.

Favorite spot on campus

It’s hard to choose but I would say that walking along the Red Cedar River is definitely a favorite for me, especially closer to the stadium because it’s where I would tailgate as a kid.
