Hi! I'm Rumi, a rising sophomore at Northeastern University studying Psychology on the pre-med track. I started at the Oakland campus for my freshman year, which was an amazing, tight-knit introduction to college life. I actually started my freshman year as a Business major before realizing my true passion was in healthcare, and I switched halfway through the year, so I know firsthand how to navigate academic changes here. Now, I'm transitioning to the Boston campus, and I have spent months visiting and delving into everything it has to offer. Outside of class, I'm involved with pre-med clubs, affinity organizations, and intramural tennis! Describe your college experience

While the typical homesickness hit a few days after moving in, I quickly overcame it by putting myself out there and connecting with an amazing group of friends that I am still close with today. Going to college has sparked a newfound motivation in me. Through this journey, I have learned so much about myself, grown my confidence, and truly discovered my passion for my future. It has been an incredible experience of personal and academic growth!

Tip for future students

Prioritize your health from day one. Getting sick at college for the first time can feel a bit lonely since you're managing it on your own. Plus, keeping up with classes is entirely on you. You should stay on top of your physical and mental health so that missing a lecture—whether from sickness or something else—doesn't turn into a stressful academic domino effect. Listen to your body and take things slow when you need to!

Favorite class

Foundations of Psychology. This was the very first science class I took after a semester of business courses, and it completely cemented my passion for the sciences. I realized how much I love understanding human behavior and medicine, giving me the final push I needed to officially pivot toward my psychology and pre-med track!

Career goals

I hope to make my way through the many years of schooling required to become a doctor.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Curled up on a comfortable couch with an even comfier blanket with my friends and either watching a funny movie or playing Jackbox on the Switch.
