Passionate Junior who’s seen it all.

Hi! My name is Naomi and I am a junior studying Geology here at BYU. Over the past 3 years I have gotten to know a lot of the ins and outs of BYU but the best part is there always seems to be something new to explore. You can find me doing field work collecting sediment samples out at the Great Salt Lake for my lab, going to football games with my boyfriend, or occasionally ditching a class to ski on the mountain(only if the snow is to good to resist). BYU has a lot to offer and I would love to show it off.

Clubs, organizations & involvement

I get involved a lot through work that is on campus. Im working away from school but Ive found jobs that get me involved with the campus community. Student Wellness got me involved with athletics, Ballard center a lot with BYU’s service orientation, and Geology Labs with academics and cross department communication.

Describe your college experience

It took me a minute to really get my hands into it because I was shy and didn’t know what to study but since then I have grown and learned so much, so glad I am here.

Tip for future students

Don’t worry about everything you think you don’t know that will just stop you from experiencing everything college has to offer.

Favorite class

Most people hate on Unvi 101 but I had a fantastic professor who opened my eyes to the path to get a lot out of college and has become a great mentor. American Heritage was also such a awesome look into US history but with a more wholistic approach, great paradigm shift for me and how I see our country. Eternal Families really taught me a deeper perspective on life and the gospel. Geol 210, embodies everything I love about my major, we spent 2 weeks camping all over Utah listening to very intelligent people.

Career goals

I want to get a Masters and then go on to work with water resources and community sustainability.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Get outside into the mountains and come back to my apartment to paint. Definitely Skiing in the winter or some sort of creative date night.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the 3rd floor of the Eyring building because it’s full of dinosaur bones and different minerals that connects me to my 3rd grade self that just loved to learn. The duck pond is a amazing spot to go to get a little breather and have amazing view of the mountains.

Meeting point
