Outgoing engineering student, involved through Greek Life, Clubs etc
Hi! My name is Dean and I'm a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering with minors in Scientific Computing and Chemistry at Vanderbilt University. I'm originally from downtown Atlanta and took a leap of faith picking Vanderbilt over going to college in state. This has turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I have found a collaborative community of likeminded students that has pushed me to be best version of myself. I hope I can help other prospective students by sharing my amazing experience so far! On campus I'm involved in Greek Life specifically being a Panhellenic Recruitment Counselor. I'm also involved in various engineering clubs such as SWE or AICHE. I recently did an immersion study abroad experience this summer through the university and will be spending my spring semester studying in Australia! I can share perspective on being a scholarship student, STEM classes at Vanderbilt like Chemistry and Math, and the many resources Vanderbilt offers that makes it a one-of-a-kind college experience.

Describe your college experience
My experience so far has been truly transformative and choosing Vandy is one the best choices I've ever made. Going into freshman year I didn't know anyone and it was the first time I've had to push myself out of my comfort zone both socially and academically. While this was uncomfortable at first it has been so worth it. I have fallen in love with my major, made lifelong friends, and found so many amazing communities. The Vanderbilt community is one of my favorite parts about college. Being surrounded by likeminded, outgoing, passionate, and collaborative people has pushed me to become the best version of myself.
Tip for future students
Say yes! College is about trying new things, so always push yourself to say yes to new opportunities and friendships. Take advantage of all the resources Vanderbilt offers and make the most of your four years!
Favorite class
Religious Diversity - I loved this class as it gave me the opportunity to look at many religions through various academic lenses such as sociology, anthropology, art history, and more. It was so fun to take a class outside my major that challenged and inspired me. This class impacted me so much and truly changed my perspective and the way I interact with religion.

Having such a busy schedule as a college student, I always try to spend my free time with my friend's whether we're going out exploring Nashville, trying a new restaurant or workout class, I always have a good time with them and forget about anything I was stressed about.
