Outgoing business major who is involved with everything finance on campus

Hi, my name is Ashley and I’m a Business Economics student at UCLA graduating this year! One of my proudest accomplishments is earning over $100,000 in scholarships, which has allowed me to graduate completely debt free. Throughout college, I’ve balanced classes with internships, campus organizations, and plenty of adventures along the way. Outside of school, you can usually find me at the gym, trying a new restaurant, or planning my next trip. I’ve traveled to over 25 countries and love experiencing new places and cultures! After graduation, I’ll be trading credit derivatives on Wall Street at Barclays in New York City. UCLA has opened so many doors for me, and I’d love to help future Bruins make the most of their college experience. Whether you're curious about scholarships, internships, campus life, or my favorite places around LA, I'm always happy to share what I've learned and answer any questions!

Describe your college experience

My transition to UCLA was exciting but definitely took some adjusting, especially when it came to balancing classes, extracurriculars, and having more independence. Over time, I found my routine, made some great friends, and became more involved on campus. Throughout college, I’ve balanced my coursework with internships during the school year and involvement in extracurricular activities. Studying Business Economics has also given me the chance to explore my interest in finance and gain valuable professional experience. Looking back, I’ve grown a lot since my freshman year, and I’m really grateful for the people I’ve met and the opportunities I’ve had.

Tip for future students

My biggest advice would be to get involved early and take advantage of as many opportunities as you can. Join clubs, meet new people, and don't be afraid to apply for internships or try something outside your comfort zone. College goes by faster than you expect, and some of my favorite experiences came from opportunities I almost didn't pursue.

Favorite class

I took Management 108, Business Law, during my sophomore year and learned much more than I initially expected. The course gave me a better understanding of contracts, liability, and the legal responsibilities businesses face. I especially enjoyed seeing how these concepts apply to real-world situations and influence everyday business decisions.

Career goals

After graduating, I’ll be moving to New York City to start my career on Wall Street as a credit derivatives trader at Barclays.

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal way to spend a free night would be trying a new restaurant with friends, exploring somewhere new, or having a relaxing night in watching a movie. I love finding new places and trying new things, but I also enjoy having time to unwind after a busy week.

High school or secondary school

Vasquez High School

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the James West Alumni Center. It is hidden in a shady spot, has lots of windows, and has the comfiest chairs with outlets. Plus its almost never busy because nobody knows about it.
