Hi! I'm Alex, and I'm an Early Childhood Education major here at Coastal Carolina University. I am a freshman and have had to adjust to a difficult 15 hour distance from my family and friends back home. I love energy drinks and finding fun places around the area.

I am currently part of Young Adults Love Jesus which meets on Monday nights, and I am training for the Floydd Mentoring Program which I will be doing weekly and mentoring a child with a tough home life.

Describe your college experience

I came to Coastal with one of my friends from my high school. It was a really tough transition to move 15 hours away from my family, especially because I am very close with my family and left a lot of people behind. CCU has become an amazing place that I feel at home at and it has made the transition so much easier for me than it would have been anywhere else.

Tip for future students

It's going to be hard but you are stronger than that. There is always something to do, get up and out of your room even when you don't want to.

Favorite class

Creative writing! I love this class because it is immersive and gives a lot of experiences to get into writing and try out different styles you wouldn't have thought to before. I have also learned a lot about myself as a writer and gotten really good feedback from peers and my teacher.

Career goals

I want to go right into teaching and be a kindergarten teacher where I plan to get my Master's Degree online while doing this.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love hanging out with friends and going out and meeting new people.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the turtle bridge. The whole campus is beautiful, so it is hard to pick one place that I love the most. Every time I walk over the bridge, I find myself looking for turtles and taking pictures and videos of them to send to people back home.
