I’m a senior Mechanical Engineering student at Northeastern University with a minor in Mathematics. I’m involved in engineering design projects, undergraduate research, tutoring, and student leadership on and around campus, and have studied at three Northeastern campuses (London, Oakland, and Boston). ASME – Active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, participating in professional development and networking opportunities with fellow engineering students and industry professionals. SPLASH Northeastern – Executive Board Officer helping organize a student-led educational outreach program that connects Northeastern students with local Boston high school students through student-designed classes. I assist with club operations, event planning, and instructor support. Innovators for Global Health (IGH) – Member of a multidisciplinary organization focused on developing engineering solutions to address global health challenges and improve healthcare accessibility.

Describe your college experience

I studied in London and later at the Oakland campus through the Global Scholars program before moving to Boston. I started as an International Relations and Environmental Engineering major, but discoveref that Mechanical Engineering was a much better fit. Although I went through Northeastern’s co-op application process and received offers, I ultimately chose to graduate a year early instead. I’ve also taken summer classes for the past two years, which has allowed me to accelerate my degree while staying involved in research and student organizations.

Tip for future students

Get involved early with activities outside of the classroom, whether it’s with student organizations, research, volunteering, or campus jobs. Some of my most valuable opportunities have come from meeting people naturally rather than at formal networking events. Those connections have led to internships, research opportunities, and mentors. If you’re interested in research, don’t be intimidated; it’s surprisingly easy to get involved at Northeastern, and you can receive course credit for it.

Favorite class

Cornerstone of Engineering 1 was my favorite engineering course because it gave me a realistic introduction to engineering design and teamwork. It’s a great way to figure out whether you’ll enjoy the hands-on ​/​ project-based environment, especially if you’re still deciding on a major. Outside of engineering, I also loved Current Issues in Cities and Suburbs while I was in Oakland. The class partnered with local organizations and businesses on community projects, and it changed the way I think about cities and community engagement.

Career goals

After graduating, I hope to pursue a master’s degree in bioengineering and work in medical technology research and development. I’m especially interested in designing medical devices and rehabilitation technologies that improve patients’ quality of life.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Either heading to El Barco for salsa and bachata night with friends (followed by tacos, of course) or taking the Orange Line to Boston Common for an evening picnic. It’s a good way to unwind and enjoy the city without spending much money.
