Marketing student who knows the best spots to make friends and study on campus!

Hi! I’m Elise, and I’m a marketing major at BYU. I love being a student here and all of the amazing opportunities BYU provides! BYU is the most beautiful campus with the mountains so close, and the faculty and students here are so supportive and kind! You can often find me anywhere enjoying the beautiful outdoors of Utah! When it’s warm, I'm hiking, playing pickle ball, or swimming! When it’s cold, I’m skiing or bundling up by a fire! I am so excited to help show you around campus and get a vision of what your college experience will be like here in Provo. Ask me any questions-I can’t wait to help you on your journey to BYU! Go Cougs!!

Describe your college experience

BYU made transitioning to college so easy by providing so many incredible events to participate in as a student. My experience so far has been full of so much joy and fun memories made with friends who have become like family to me. I am thankful for my time here and all of the ways I have developed and grown as a student and as a person.

Tip for future students

My best advice would be to give yourself grace, be patient, and reach out to others! There is a big learning curve to beginning college, and it can take a second to settle into your routine and to feel comfortable with the many changes in your life. Remember to be kind to yourself! Trust in everything you have done that has gotten you to where you are, and be proud of your achievements! And most importantly, reach out to others! Find a network of friends who will help lift you up when you need a hand, and who you can laugh with and make memories with. College is supposed to be fun, and it will be with good friends! Keep putting yourself out there to meet new people, and you will find your group.

Favorite class

My favorite class in college might have to be art history! I took it my freshman year, and it was the perfect combination of so many things I love: art, people, psychology, and history. The professor was so engaging and I truly fell in love with learning about art and understanding the meaning behind each unique piece!

Career goals

I hope to pursue a career in experiential or brand marketing for a company with good values and which I support and love! Marketing is my passion, and I want to have the opportunity to make an impact and help a business refine their brand and flourish!

Ideal way to spend a free night

My ideal free night must be spent with my friends, no matter what. Apart from that, I’m pretty much game for any kind of adventure! Maybe a trip up the canyon to hammock and roast marshmallows, or a hike in the mountains, or thrifting in downtown Provo. There is so much to do so close to BYU, you will never be bored!!

Favorite spot on campus

My favorite spot on campus is the JFSB. It provides so many beautiful places to study, including the courtyard (sit on a bench by the water fountain to feel like you’re studying by a waterfall), the many nooks on each floor (so well decorated with rugs, comfy chairs, and book shelves that you feel like you are traveling back in time to a library), and the terrace on the top floor (with a view of the entire campus and the mountains behind it-it really puts things into perspective and helps bring peace). I also love the many different exhibits and displays throughout the semesters that teach about different peoples and places! I always learn something new when I go through the exhibits.
