Marine Biology major @ University of Washington Seattle

Hi! My name is Juno. As the title implies, I'm a student at the University of Washington's Seattle campus, majoring in marine biology. As I write this, I've just finished my second year, and I've had a fantastic time thus far. I'd love to share my enthusiasm with you and show you around campus! It is a truly beautiful place- it's hard to put into words, and photos don't do it justice. Beyond that, I can also give you tips for how to handle the toughest moments this university can throw at you. Having been through the wringer, and coming out the other side all the better for it, I would be *delighted* to share some advice.

Describe your college experience

Starting college, for me, was like a chain of new experiences, one after the other. It was a little overwhelming sometimes, but I learn something new every day, both inside classes and outside them, and I am very pleased with the opportunities for growth that college has allowed me. In more ways than one, I feel like a whole new person!

Tip for future students

If you're in the sciences, get as many of the required gen eds done as quickly as possible-ideally, via Running Start or at an applicable community college! The UW's starting math, chemistry, and biology courses are no joke, and anything you can do to make them go as smoothly as possible is a win for you.

Favorite class

FISH 250. This is Intro to Marine Biology, and it was basically my main first impression of the school. It was a wonderful class that allowed me to get a taste of work in my field right from the get-go, while not being too intense to start off with.

Career goals

I would like a career in conservation or research. I try not to get my heart set on anything too specific, personally- I like to leave lots of doors open, depending on what opportunities are available to me when I graduate.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Either hanging out with friends and playing D&D into the wee hours of the night, or spending the night solo, eating something comforting, and reading a good book or playing a good videogame.

High school or secondary school

I was homeschooled, & I did some Running Start classes during high school (mostly online.)

Meeting point
