Law, History, and Culture | Dance | Social Work | AXO
As a rising senior at USC I have found myself involved in many on campus organizations and programs from dance to the Prison Education Project, studying law and social work has made me invested in the community and learning about the people and stories that make USC and LA so special. I have taken every opportunity to experience being a student in LA, played on the competitive ultimate frisbee team, played beach volleyball and pickleball for class credit, as well as taught in the local LA schools through the JEP program. I never miss a football game or a campus market, and I am excited to get to know you and tell you all about everything USC has to offer!

Describe your college experience
As an out of state student going from rainy Seattle to beautiful sunny California, I felt like a fish out of water. But being in the dorms on campus I met my best friend and new family that made the transition so much easier. I learned a lot and spent many nights calling my mom for support, but eventually I found my footing and joined clubs and organizations on campus. Living in the dorms is an amazing experience where you get to eat, sleep, study, and grow with all of your best friends just an arm's length away. My second year I moved to an apartment just off campus in the Village with my friends and it was the perfect stepping stone to adult life. With a kitchen I was able to cook but still access the dining halls on rough study days. Now, as a junior I moved off campus and am balancing an internship and school.
Tip for future students
My biggest piece of advice is to say yes to everything, every opportunity and every person, because these four years will pass you by so quickly. Soak up every moment of this amazing time in your life. Also, don't be afraid to fail, because you will, and that is part of college: learning how to engage with failure and make something good out of it. Something I wish I knew is that it gets really hot, so don't forget a fan! And live in the dorms, it's gross but so worth it.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been ANTH 374: Cross Cultural Analysis of Urban Gangs because we took a deep dive into gangs, what they are, how to define them, and their relationship with Los Angeles, taught by an anthropologist who spent 10 years in the field. We had many guest speakers and the course was life changing for me, especially living in one of the gang capitals of the world and being passionate about law and social justice.
