Hi! My name is Langley and I am a Vanderbilt senior originally from Atlanta Georgia. I have had a phenomenal experience as a Vanderbilt student. I love my sorority, extracurriculars, and research lab. Coming to Vanderbilt, there were not any other students from my school or area of Atlanta in my class. Since then, I’ve been able to make so many amazing friends and have been welcomed into a close knit community. I love meeting new people and would be excited to have the opportunity to show some prospective students around campus.

Describe your college experience

Coming to Vanderbilt was an amazing choice for me, and I have truly enjoyed my college experience throughout the past three years. As a freshman, no one else from my hometown (a suburb of Northern Atlanta) came to Vanderbilt my year, so I had the opportunity to branch out and meet an amazing group of friends. I have been an involved member of Vanderbilt Chi Omega since I joined as a freshman. I love the Greek life community here at Vanderbilt, but I also have friends outside of Greek life (most are musicians, haha!) I am a premed student and I work at a hospital research lab doing music therapy with young children on the autism spectrum. I love my work as both a student and a researcher. I have also had the opportunity to take songwriting classes at Vanderbilt and meet songwriters from the music industry. My Lab is on music row so I watch session musicians walk to work every day. Nashville is an amazing city and throughout college. I have explored many different spots, I’ve spent two different summers here and I have really gotten a sense for the city and all the fun activities to do here.

Tip for future students

College is an amazing time and the period where you apply can be stressful. I think finding the right college is not about going to the best school, but rather going to the best school for you. Things like the size of the school you’re considering, the school spirit, and the school’s location are all important to consider outside of just its ranking. When applying to Vanderbilt, I would encourage you to really try to ingrain your unique qualities into your essays. I think Vanderbilt is looking for students with deep interest in a few activities rather than a jack of all trade who never really got plugged into anything.

Favorite class

One of my favorite classes I’ve taken at Vanderbilt was parasitology, an upper level biology class. I loved the small class environment, and my professor was really engaging. I never would’ve had a chance to memorize the life cycles of so many parasites if I had not taken this class. It was a little weird and disgusting, but it was fun to explore a biology topic outside of my comfort zone!

Career goals

I am Pre, Mad and plan to continue my studies in med school after undergrad. I would love to into psychiatry as I’ve developed a special interest in psychology through my research lab.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Here at Vanderbilt my ideal free night would be spent eating some spicy food at Satay and then going and hanging out with my friends before catching some live music on Broadway! I also enjoy catching a basketball or football game at school (student tickets are free)
