Describe your college experience
I absolutely love UMD! Being from out-of-state, I didn't know many people coming into college, but I quickly found an amazing group of friends who were incredibly welcoming. I really like that UMD has something for everyone. I'm not a huge party person, but it exists if you're interested. In terms of academics I really enjoy my major and have had some incredible opportunities. I am focusing on broadcast journalism so I have gotten really involved with CNS, UMD's bi-weekly newscast. So many of my professors have been amazing too!
Tip for future students
Join clubs! Even if you don't end up staying for long, it's a great way to meet people and try new things. Obviously try new things, but also don't compromise your mental health by doing too much or doing things that make you uncomfortable. It's important to know your limits. Plus, in terms of social life, you'll find your people :) You don't have to do all of you gen-eds at once, spread them out so you can jump in to your major classes as soon as you can. GET EXPERIENCE! Don't compare yourself to other people too much. This is something I still work on, but sometimes you just need to keep working and things will figure themselves out.
Favorite class
My favorite classes have been with my favorite professors. Anything with Nathan Stevens or Alanna Delfino-Kopania was amazing! These were journalism classes like for broadcast and video. They were super hands-on which is my favorite way to learn, plus I came out of them with work samples that I was proud of.
Career goals
I'm actually graduating in December, so my goal would be to go into the Spring cohort of the NBC Page program, or I would like to be a producer in broadcast news or entertainment.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I love having a night with friends to make dinner, craft, and watch a movie.
