Describe your college experience

I came to Cornell from a large public high school, where I was part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. I didn’t know anyone else attending Cornell, but I was drawn to the strong sense of community and the feel of a true college town (Ithaca NY). The transition was challenging, especially adjusting to the academic rigor. I had to relearn how to learn and develop new study habits. But over time, I found my rhythm and have grown so much both academically and personally. As a student in the School of Hotel Administration, I’ve been able to explore an incredible range of classes and career opportunities, while also taking courses outside of my major, thanks to Cornell’s flexible curriculum. I’ve lived on North Campus, in my sorority house, and now on West Campus. Each place has shaped my experience in its own way. Being part of both the Hotel School and Greek life has helped me make friends across different communities, and I really value the balance of academic dedication and social connection here at Cornell.

Tip for future students

Stay organized: Keep a planner and take thorough notes. Both are essential for staying on top of classes and deadlines. Don’t be afraid of office hours: Professors genuinely care about your learning and are there to help. Showing up can make a big difference. Explore campus events: Attend club fairs and career fairs! You never know who you’ll meet or what new interest you’ll discover. Plan ahead for pre-enrollment: Have a few backup classes ready in case your first picks fill up quickly. Try classes outside your major: Some of my favorite courses have come from other colleges at Cornell. It’s a great way to broaden your perspective. If you’re considering Greek life: Go to the open houses and talk to as many people as you can. It’s a great way to get a feel for the community and find where you click.

Favorite class

Bowling (PE): Cornell requires students to complete two PE credits, and I took bowling my first semester. It was a fun way to relax, and I even made a few friends in the class! Foundations in Leadership: Skills for Personal and Professional Effectiveness (GDEV 3100): This class, offered through the School of Global Development, helped me better understand myself and how to work effectively in teams. It’s extremely relevant no matter what career path you choose.

Career goals

I’m interested in pursuing a career in hospitality operations, especially within cruise lines, entertainment, and food & beverage. My short-term goal is to join a Manager-in-Training (MIT) program with a major hospitality company to gain hands-on leadership experience. Long-term, I hope to build my career in South Florida, where I can be part of a vibrant hospitality market and stay close to home.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love spending a free night either hanging out with friends and trying new restaurants, or having a calm movie night in to relax and recharge. It really depends on the mood. Sometimes you need the energy of a night out, and other times, cozying up with a good film is the perfect reset needed, especially after prelims/finals.
