IR-obsessed international student at Princeton University
Hi! I'm Yaroslav, a freshman from Ukraine, planning to major in Public and International Affairs. Before coming to Princeton, I finished the IB program at a United World College in Canada, so I know what it's like to arrive somewhere new and figure it out from scratch. I'm passionate about diplomacy and languages (I speak four), and I love learning from people with different backgrounds. Is there a better place for that than Princeton? Outside of classes you'll usually find me prepping for Model UN conferences, playing soccer with the Davis International Center team, or watching Formula 1 with my friends. I'd love to show you around, answer questions about life as an international student, or just talk about world politics over a dining hall meal.

Describe your college experience
My transition to Princeton has been smooth, and I'm enjoying it more each week. The campus, the dining halls, and the range of opportunities here continue to impress me. The community has also been very welcoming: there are plenty of resources available, and there is always someone ready to help.
Tip for future students
1. Enjoy your time at home with family and friends before you leave. 2. Don't overpack. You can buy most things here, and Princeton gives out plenty of essentials for free. 3. Don't be afraid to make mistakes or change your mind. First year is designed to be flexible so you can find your footing.
Favorite class
International Relations, because the professor connects theory to what's happening in world politics right now which makes the class really interesting
Career goals
I hope to work in diplomacy, with a particular focus on expanding access to education for children in war zones.
Ideal way to spend a free night
A late-night walk around campus with some time by a favorite book or simply enjoying the quie.
High school or secondary school
Pearson College UWC
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot is the East Pyne library. It's open late, which makes it perfect for late-night study, and its architecture makes you feel like you're at Hogwarts. Studying there is genuinely inspiring.
Meeting point
Oval with Points Sculpture on the Princeton University campus
