Tufts University
I'm a rising junior majoring in Psychology and Child Study & Human Development!
Hi! My name is Josie, and I’m from Houston, Texas. I’m double majoring in Psychology and Child Study & Human Development here at Tufts. Outside of academics, I’m involved in a variety of activities that reflect my passions and interests. I dance with Sarabande, a contemporary and jazz dance group at Tufts. I am also a research assistant in the Social Identity and Stigma Lab within the Psychology Department. I’ve also been part of HCAP, a mentoring program where I led local middle schoolers in creative art projects, and I participate in Tufts Pen Pals, writing letters to ESL students as part of an educational outreach program. I’m also a member of a local sorority at Tufts called Thalia. Additionally, I'm very active in Tufts Hillel—this year, I served as a Shabbat Fellow. Next year, I will be starting a position as a Writing Fellow, helping students strengthen their academic writing. I’m excited to share my Tufts experience with you and show you what makes this community so special!

Describe your college experience
My transition to college at Tufts has been an incredibly positive experience. I’ve found a strong sense of community here, and the friends I have made are some of the kindest, funniest, and easygoing people I’ve ever met. Whether it’s sledding down President’s Lawn, grabbing a spontaneous meal in Davis Square, or watching movies together in the dorm common room, we always find ways to make everyday moments special. Academically, I have felt that the workload is very interesting and manageable. My professors have been approachable, supportive, and invested in their students’ success, and my classes have been intellectually stimulating and engaging. The collaborative spirit at Tufts is something I really value—I often study and exchange notes with friends, which has made learning feel even more meaningful. Overall, Tufts has quickly become a place where I feel at home.
Tip for future students
As someone who is from a very warm area, I wish that I had stocked up on warm clothing earlier! Winter sneaks up on you, so be sure to be prepared!
Favorite class
I’ve taken so many incredible classes at Tufts, but one of my favorites has been Gurus, Cults, and Utopias. This class stood out to me because it was so different from the courses I typically take. We explored New Religious Movements through academic articles and documentaries, which made the content feel both engaging and relevant. I’ve always been fascinated by cults, so I especially enjoyed learning about the psychological and social factors that attract people to these movements, as well as the traits that are often found in cult leaders. It was a thought-provoking class that challenged me to think critically about belief systems, identity, and community.
Career goals
After college I hope to pursue a Ph.D. in Psychology and become a clinical psychologist
