I am a somewhat introverted chemical engineering student.
Hi! I’m Eloise and I’m a freshman majoring in chemical engineering. I’m also an out of state student from southern Virginia. I love to go to the Eppley center on campus or go to dinner with friends at some of the amazing restaurants on campus. I was a bit nervous beginning as a freshman at such a big school where I did not know any one, but now I am sure Maryland was the perfect fit and I hope to help others fall in love with it just as I did on my tour.

Describe your college experience
Although I haven’t been in college long my experience so far has been great. I wasn’t sure how I’d like transitioning to a huge college and leaving my friend behind but UMD has helped me make so many friends and I’ve had a blast.
Tip for future students
Tips for future students is to not worry so much about what other people think of you. College is a fresh start and a great chance to be whoever you are. UMD especially is so big so you will definitely find your crowd even if it does take a bit.
Favorite class
BSCI160 which is about ecology and evolution has been my favorite class. I love science and this forced me to branch off from my love for chemistry and explore other topics and fields which helped me discover my interest in evolution.
Career goals
Go to grad school to get my PhD
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night is either going to the mall and sitting outside with friends or going out to local bars on campus and going out to eat at one of the many good restaurants on Baltimore avenue .
High school or secondary school
Grafton high school
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is STAMP because there is so much to do there. There are places to sit and do your homework, restaurants to grab food from, bowling and a movie theatre, and even the bookstore where I can grab anything I need for school.
Meeting point
Frederick Douglass Square on the University of Maryland campus
