Human Biology student who loves learning through experience and others
Hi! My name is Juliet and I'm a sophomore at UC San Diego. I'm majoring in Human Biology and I'm on the pre-med track, hoping to become a surgeon. I'm an out of state student who had a hard time picking a college, but am so thankful that I landed on UCSD. I'd love to help make this process easier for other people by showing them around my beautiful campus and giving insights on what undergrad is like as a UCSD student. I look forward to meeting you!!

Describe your college experience
As an out of state student, the transition into college was definitely a challenging one. However, I found that the students and teaching staff and UCSD were incredible welcoming and friendly, which helped make the transition smoother. Through random roommate assignment, I made some of my best friends, who I will be living with again next year. I had a great first year, filled with memories, learning, and lots of progress.
Tip for future students
Even though the college transition will be really tough, don't give up, and know that things will get better the more you settle in. When I first got to college, I was really homesick and wanted to go back home, but sticking it out was a great decision and I'm very glad I did so.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been BIPN 100 - Human Physiology. This was my favorite class, because it showed me that UCSD truly is built off of community. My professor encouraged peer engagement, as well as engagement with the teaching team. She also encouraged us to reach out to her for more than just class questions, but career questions or even just simple conversation, as she wanted to build long lasting relationships with us. This type of teaching, paired with material that I really enjoyed, definitely made this class my favorite so far.
Career goals
After college I hope to be a surgeon, specializing in either pediatric surgery or cardiothoracic surgery.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be dressing up with my friends and going to a food or art market, where we can get pictures, eat good food, and meet new people.
High school or secondary school
Spring Valley High School
Favorite spot on campus
My favorite place on campus is the old student center. This is my favorite place, as it has a number of places to meet new people and spend time between classes, such as restaurants (including my favorite campus restaurant: Blue Pepper), a library, a general store, and even a school radio. I've found that the old student center is a great place to meet new people if you're feeling lonely, or to sit down outside and get some fresh air while studying
