I'm Anya, a freshman in the College of Arts & Sciences at Cornell University and a local Ithacan. I'm a psychology and music major concentrating in voice and a theater minor. My academic pursuits are psychopathology, development, and behavioral neuroscience, as well as vocal performance. I am a member of various academic and student led music ensembles, in Cornell and the broader Ithaca community.

Describe your college experience

Part of why I chose to attend Cornell was because of the location. Being an Ithacan, I had a built in community and familiarity with the area and Cornell as a school. However, joining the music ensembles gave me built in friends and social events to become a part of, which I am very grateful for.

Tip for future students

Go to your classes!!! It can be very easy to stop showing up, but the best way to stay on top of your coursework is to keep attending classes, even when it's hard. It makes learning the material so much easier. Additionally, use the academic support resources! There are tons of people who want to help you succeed, so rely on them when you need.

Favorite class

PSYCH 2230: Behavioral Neuroscience was my favorite class I've taken thus far. It was hard, but challenging in a way that inspired me to truly understand the content I was learning. As the content became more complex, I developed more of a fascination with and appreciation for the intricacies of the brain.

Career goals

I hope to attend graduate school in a clinical psychology program, attain my state license for practice, and then become a clinical psychologist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Finish my homework in a library, go out to eat dinner at Collegetown, and watch a movie with my friends!
