Hi, I’m Heath, a current student at Georgetown University in the McDonough School of Business. I offer prospective students and families an honest look at Georgetown beyond the official tour. We will cover campus life, academics, clubs, social scene, dorms, dining, and the uncensored version of admissions. I can also show you around the surrounding Georgetown neighborhood so you get a feel for life off campus too, including M Street, Wisconsin Ave, coffee shops, food spots, shopping, nightlife, and where students actually spend time. Our tour will be relaxed and tailored to what you care about most. I’ll give you the good, the bad, and the stuff you usually don’t hear in an admissions presentation.

Describe your college experience

My transition to Georgetown has been really positive so far. It has been a great balance of academic rigor, meeting motivated people, and having a vibrant social life both on campus and in the surrounding Georgetown neighborhood. The classes are challenging, but the environment pushes you in a good way, and there are always clubs, events, speakers, and social opportunities happening. Overall, I’ve felt like Georgetown has given me the chance to work hard while still having a full college experience!

Tip for future students

My biggest tip is to get more than just the official university version of Georgetown. The school tour is helpful, but it can naturally sugarcoat certain things, so it’s worth talking to current students and getting an un-salaried perspective on academics, social life, dorms, dining, and the overall culture. I know its generic but I’d also recommend that WHEN you enroll at Georgetown, go to everything you can during the first few weeks: club fairs, dorm events, social events, info sessions, and random campus activities. That is the easiest time to meet people and figure out where you fit in.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been Intro to Environmental Ethics with Professor Jason Farr. The class was extremely interactive, and every day felt different. We went on a lot of field trips, had incredible guest speakers, and Professor Farr always made the class feel engaging and personal. He even brought top shelf snacks for us, which made the class feel relaxed and welcoming. Take him if you can.

Career goals

After college, I am going to pursue a career in finance. Georgetown has been a great place to explore that goal through classes, clubs, alumni, and conversations with people in the industry.

Ideal way to spend a free night

If I don’t have to study for anything, my ideal free night is spending time with friends. Usually that means hanging out, going out around Georgetown or D.C., or hosting at one of the townhouses. I like that Georgetown has a good balance where you can have a busy academic week, but still find time to relax and be social.
