My name is Beverly Holton and I am a rising Sophmore in Georgetown's School of Foreign Service (SFS) studying International Politics, Arabic, and Economics. I have spent my summer working as a National Security Legislative Intern in the US Senate, assisting with research at the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, and training for the Marine Corps Marathon. The SFS was my dream school, and I have loved immersing myself in all of its amazing extracurricular opportunities. After I graduate, I hope to join in American Foreign Service and work in the Middle East.

Describe your college experience

Georgetown has such a breadth of opportunities for students its difficult to know where to start. I immersed myself in Georgetown's club cultures (with organizations ranging from political institues to triathalon clubs) and try to attend as many out-of-class events as I can. The pace of college and DC life was a little overwhelming at first, but now I can safely say that I cannot imagine myself going anywhere but Georgetown.

Tip for future students

I definitely experienced imposter syndrome my first few weeks on campus, so I wish I had someone to constantly remind me that I got in for a reason. Georgetown is full of fabulously interesting people, and each student who attends is one of them.

Career goals

I hope to work in the diplomatic realm, beginning as a Foreign Service Officer, and advance humane rights outcomes and multilateral partnerships. I am specifically interested in advancing humanitarian initatives in the Middle East and North Africa.

Ideal way to spend a free night

On a weekday, I'd likely spend a free night trying a new restaurant in the Georgetown neighborhood with friends or going on an evening walk by the Potomac. On a weekend, I'd likely hop from friends' dorm to dorm to visit before heading out in DC for a fun (and often free!!) nightlife event, like a concert at the Anthem or a local jazz night.
