Hi! I am a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Health, Society and Populations in the Honors college. As a first-generation college student, I love meeting new people and sharing what I have discovered during my time here. I may not be a Lexington expert just yet, but I enjoy exploring the city and what it has to offer- and I’d love to do that with you! -Kaylee :)

Clubs, organizations & involvement
Since I have been in college, I have held a part-time job from a few different places within the community including my current job at U.K. Chandler Hospital. I also have spent several months volunteering at the local Carnegie Center where I was tutoring underprivileged children afterschool. Last summer, I studied abroad in Costa Rica and had the most wonderful experience learning about health and nutrition. Additionally, I am a part of the Tri-Alpha Chapter for First-gen students.

Describe your college experience
Preparing for college, I was extremely excited and had high expectations. I entered college majoring in Biology and minoring in Spanish with little to no knowledge of what to expect. I was met with heavy course work and many late nights studying! I met a good group of friends in those tough classes that really helped me get through! Once I got to certain classes, such as Organic Chemistry, I realized that Medical School may not be in my future or what I was wanting at least. I pivoted my pathway with the help of my advisors and teachers and found a major that excited me the most. I have always prioritized academics in college, but have also tried my best to balance my social life. I have had roommates each year and enjoyed the memories I have made with them dearly. While I did not have the chance to participate in Greek life, I still made the most of my college experience and enjoyed nights out and in!!
Tip for future students
I would advise future students to get involved in anything you can! Say “ Yes!” as often as possible! The four short years you are here go by quickly and you don’t want to have regrets. Some of the best memories are from taking chances and putting yourself out there. Making connections and friendships will come naturally when you are putting yourself in situations to meet people instead of staying in, even if it’s scary!
Favorite class
My favorite classes were my Honors classes because they were smaller and very collaborative. I felt that I had a lot of input in those classes and my thoughts were challenged the most!
Career goals
After I graduate in December, I plan to get my Nursing degree and continue my education at Northern Kentucky University. I would like to either work in Anesthesia or Behavioral Health.
Ideal way to spend a free night
Typically on a free night, I would enjoy taking a walk to my favorite Mexican restaurant with my roommates and enjoying the outside as much as possible. Chips and queso is a must! Anything with my friends ends up being fun and carefree.
High school or secondary school
I am a Campbell County High School Alum.
