Describe your college experience

I was worried about going to college because I heard it was completely different from high school and would continually put you out of your comfort zone. However, while there are options to go out of your comfort zone and college is much harder, I find that, just like in high school, I have to choose to go outside my comfort zone as opposed to just being forced out. This knowledge has helped my transition to college as it allows me to feel more at ease.

Tip for future students

College grades things differently than high school. Even if your grade is 50% that doesn't mean F and it doesn't mean you can't bring it up. You should check the curve, the weight of your tests, assignments, or finals. But most importantly don't panic take a deep breath and look at the syllabus or talk to your professor or TA.

Favorite class

SIO 90 is an introductory course to marine biology and is so far, my favorite class I've taken. It brings in experts in their fields and allows us to ask them questions about their work. I loved this class because it allowed me to learn about different paths I could explore with my degree in a non-stress full way.

Career goals

I hope to go more into conservation for marine mammals. Hopefully I can help by gaining more information about endangered species and what threatens them.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Take a walk around campus, then take a shower, and while laying down read a book or watching tv shows with friends while eating mac and cheese or pizza.

High school or secondary school

San Diego High School

Favorite spot on campus

in front of my dorm we had a large grassy area which held many get together events. It also had hammocks and chairs for students to relax and some benches to do work. It was calming and my favorite place to do work or just chill with friends.

Meeting point

Triton Fountain on the University of California San Diego campus
