Friendly Business major with unlimited college experience tips & tricks
Hi! My name is Kate, and I am a sophomore at BYU this year! I moved to Utah from Oregon my freshman year of college and it was hard at first, but now I am so glad I decided to come here! I am a Pre- Business major, and I will apply to the Experience Design & Management in the spring! I really like to hike, rock climb, or be outside in general, so if you were looking for me on campus you could find me probably sitting down in some grass somewhere! My favorite place to eat on campus is the MOA (Museum of Art) Cafe, and I will be happy to show you all the other fun places to check out! Come with questions, I can't wait to answer!

Describe your college experience
It was hard at first! My freshman year I only knew one girl coming from my hometown, and I had a harder time adjusting to being on my own, far from family than I expected. However, I will say I kept pushing myself to get out of my dorm, meet people and try new things and within the semester I had met a lot of awesome people and felt a lot better about my choice. BYU has a TON of clubs and activities and getting as involved with those as possible really turned the tide for me.
Tip for future students
I think my best advice to future student is to put yourself out there over and over again. It can be really hard or draining to continue to make an effort to try and learn new things when they don't seem to be going your way, but there is genuinely no better way to grow into yourself than to try everything you can, and see what fits!
Favorite class
I took a Positive Psychology class last semester at BYU, and I learned so so much! It seemed like it would be one of those classes that was really just common-sense, but it taught me so much about attitude and generally how to be a happier person, and I would say that it genuinely changed my life and outlook on gratitude and positive affect in general. This has definitely been my favorite class I have ever taken.
Career goals
My future goals are to make an impact wherever I am. With my current major, there are a lot of opportunities and types of positions that I could go into, but ultimately the training that I am getting, and the main goal I want to achieve is to help people thrive where they are. Whether that is a customer in a new store environment, or employees in a developed workplace, to help people thrive in the experience they are active in is so fulfilling.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My perfect free night here in Provo would defienetly include some food, maybe a picnic of Trader Joes food packed up, and then going up Provo Canyon to find a cute spot to sit out and eat, and maybe slackline or hike a bit as well!
High school or secondary school
Mountainside High School
Favorite spot on campus
I personally love the botanical gardens south of campus by the duck pond. There are lots of little nooks and crannies with benches and beautiful scenery to study, and it's a very peaceful spot to drift off for a little bit!
Meeting point
Joseph F. Smith Building Courtyard on the Brigham Young University campus
