Freshman Tour Guide at Georgetown University
Hi, I am Barrett, a freshman in the School of Foreign Service. I plan on majoring in Science, Technology, and International Affairs, and in my free time I love playing volleyball, hanging with friends on the patio, or grabbing food in town. I'm originally from the Bay Area in California, but I just recently moved to Long Island, New York.

Describe your college experience
Transitioning into college was a pretty smooth experience, but the first couple of weeks were definitely hectic with activities almost every single day. However, all of it has been insanely fun and I love having significantly more independence in deciding my class schedule and what I want to do with my free time in general.
Tip for future students
Something I wish I knew before coming here is that your college experience is seriously whatever you want to make out of it: you can join as many or as little clubs as you want, you can choose to take any classes that peak your interest or even drop a class if it is not as interesting as you thought it would be. The freedom of choice, especially at a school like Georgetown which has such extensive options for clubs and day-to-day activities, is one of my favorite parts.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been Foundations of Space Studies, a course that is specifically taught as an elective for my intended major. This class has been extremely engaging and has taught me immense detail about different aspects of the ever-growing geopolitical and private sector of space. We have four different professors for the course which rotate off every week, and all of their expertise in the subject fall in very different categories.
Career goals
I hope to work in the Foreign Service sector, and could see myself working either in National Security or the Department of Defense. I also am interested in diplomatic relations through the United Nations.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal free night is to grab dinner in town with my friends, then followed by ice cream or a sweet treat of some kind, and then come back to the dorm to hang out before getting ready to go out in DC at night.
High school or secondary school
I went to the Athenian High School in Danville. California.
