First generation pre-medical student

Hello! My name is Victoria Torres but most people call me Vic. I am a first-generation college student who is studying Public Health at the University of Washington-Seattle Campus. During my undergraduate years I have been involved in the associate student body at my university, have helped start a mental health centered student organization, and served as recruitment chair of the only premedical fraternity on campus. I have also worked in the athletic department of my university while holding multiple jobs outside of campus. One of my biggest accomplishments is interacting with people across campus. Feel free to ask about any niche interests as you may be surprised that I have either a personal experience or an experience of a close friend to share!

Describe your college experience

My high school was quite small therefore transitioning to college was a big shift. Up to this point in my undergraduate experience, I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of opportunities that I have been presented by going to UW. College has it's ups and downs but they have all provided me with life experiences that I will take with me.

Tip for future students

The main piece of advice I would tell future students would be to try everything that interests them even in the slightest. College is a new chapter which provides you the opportunity to write any story you would like. By trying everything, you allow yourself to find new interests that could shape the person that you are becoming during these years.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been the second organic chemistry course in the series. It was a class I took during the summer which allowed me to get to know my professor and dedicate more time than usual to the material. The content was also incredibly conceptual which is how my brain operates therefore it was challenging but fulfilling to do.

Career goals

After college, I want to pursue my D.O as well as my masters in public health. In terms of career aspirations I would love to work in the sports medicine field.

Ideal way to spend a free night

When I have free nights I spend them with my friends! We love exploring Seattle and often find ourselves trying new restaurants.
