Extremely social Theatre major who sees campus through many unique lenses!
Hi everyone! My name is Xavier and I'm currently a sophomore theatre major here at UMD! I'm from Columbia, MD, so I'm only about 30 minutes or so from here. I wasn't planning on staying in-state for school, but you really can't beat in-state tuition! In all seriousness though, UMD is such an amazing school with so many great opportunities. And of course we boast a gorgeous campus! I'm a north campus native, so you can usually find me at the Clarice, 251, and LaPlata Beach! I'm so excited to show you around the campus that I love so much!

Describe your college experience
I did a 6-week program the summer before my freshman year as part of the AAP program at UMD, and it helped me get acclimated to campus while also allowing me to earn credits before the year actually started. So, the transition was very smooth, and I've been loving my time in college so far! I've had so many positive experiences that I can't wait to continue as we head into another school year.
Tip for future students
Even though it may be difficult at the beginning, make sure that you are keeping yourself in check. In college, you don't have your parents waking you up if your alarm goes off, no authority figure to constantly remind you to do your work, etc. It's all up to you whether you succeed or not. Self-regulation is going to be a godsend!!
Favorite class
My THET222 class was amazing! It was my first acting and performance class I had taken, and it defintiely reassured me about the theatre program at Maryland. We learned many valuable skills that strengthened me as an actor.
Career goals
I hope to book professional acting work after college. Broadway has been my dream ever since I was little, so having the opportunity to be a part of a Broadway production would be absolutely amazing.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I'm someone who values my alone time just as much as I value being around my friends. College definitely unlocked a way more social side of me that was already present; it's just me times 10. I love seeing what my friends are up to and making plans with them. Whether it's chilling at someone's dorm/apartment and having a nice night in, or going out, I always make the best of it!

Favorite spot on campus
My favorite place on campus is definitely the Mall. When I toured campus for the first time, it was definitely one of the main factors that drew me in. I also love how it's the epicenter of campus because one of my favorite things to do is just see how it looks throughout the different seasons. And I especially love sprawling out and tanning on the grass when the weather starts to get warm!
