Eva - Second Year Environmental Science and Geology Major

Hey there! I'm Eva, a second year Environmental Studies and Geology major here at UCSB. I've got answers to all your questions and if I don't, I bet I can help you find them! I'll give you the inside scoop (pun intended) on what it's like at UCSB, and answer all of your questions honestly. I know what it's like to navigate the dining hall with food sensitivities, roommate struggles, or to need advice from a campus advisor. If you're feeling anxious about making a college decision, I'm here for you! A little more about me: You can catch me taking in the wildflowers, annoying my friends with rock facts, and generally being a nerd. I like to do zumba, crochet, and expand my crazy earring collection. Your college experience will be defined by how you feel about the place you go. I'm happy to help you see if UCSB is the kind of place you see yourself being!

Describe your college experience

I come from a decently sized high school in LA and I really like it here at UCSB. It's a beautiful campus with lots of places to find people or to get some space. I'm far away enough from home that going home isn't a common thing, but its only a few hours on the train ride if I really need to. Ive known people who traveled far to get here, and others not so much. I think you'll find what matters is whether you like the vibe on campus and feel like you belong.

Tip for future students

The hardest part won't be your classwork, it will be transitioning to a new life experience. Give yourself some grace, take time to find things you like that you've never tried before, and take things one at a time. You don't have to have it all figured out, just enjoy the ride.

Favorite class

Earth 2 is my favorite class, its what convinced me to double major! I found learning about geology deeply fascinating, the professor was great, and we went on a field trip to look at the rocks and tectonic history in Santa Barbara's mountains. It was super cool

Career goals

I want to teach high school environmental science. My interests are in the intersections between human connections and natural phenomena. I'm interested in connecting with humans, fighting for the environment, and getting nerdy about how life and earth coevolved on a geologic timescale.

Ideal way to spend a free night

A craft, a cup of tea, and a close friend.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the bluffs on the south side of campus. You can walk around and on one side is the lagoon and the other is the ocean. In the spring the wildflowers are in bloom and it's incredibly peaceful.
