Enthusiastic Pre-Optometry student who loves to be involved!

Hi! My name is Daniel and I am a sophomore here at BYU. I am a pre-optometry student and human development major. Between my major, career path, and extracurricular interests I can help give you insight into the various different academic disciplines BYU has to offer. One of my great passions is singing, and I have had the pleasure of singing in two of our audition choir ensembles in the school of music, Men's Chorus and Concert choir. I would love to answer any questions about the audition process. Some of my active hobbies include volleyball, running, and swimming, but I will do anything that gets me out and about. I also love to write and record music in my own makeshift studio. I spent my freshman year wandering around and exploring campus so that you don't have to! Or, we can do it together if you would like. I can show you all of my favorite places to study, collaborate with other students, or just take a brain break from the academics for a bit.

Describe your college experience

Coming in as a freshman I was very enthusiastic about getting involved with the many different activities and groups on campus. I found that there were too many to do them all, but I was able to find some that really spoke to me. I purposefully took fewer credits in my first semester, which allowed me to spend a lot of time participating in extracurricular activities and helped me adjust to college life.

Tip for future students

One piece of advice I would offer to incoming freshman is to see their experience at BYU as more than just academic learning. BYU has rich opportunities for service and involvement in the community that will not only help you learn, but help you become a better person.

Favorite class

My favorite class has been calculus. I love how it challenged me academically and my professor was very encouraging.

Career goals

I hope to become an optometrist.

Ideal way to spend a free night

I love to have friends over at my apartment to play board games. I also appreciate just spending time talking with my roommates or video calling with loved ones.

Favorite spot on campus

I love the library for it's many resources, not just books! I particularly like the content creation tools on level 4. Additionally, there are many spots for studying.
