Enthusiastic Political Science major with lots of thoughtful advice!

Hello! I'm Kale, a second year Political Science student with a focus in Public Policy and a potential Economics double major. Coming to GW was honestly one of the best decisions I ever made. I have matured so much in just one year here and I can't wait to help future students see that they belong! I've fallen in love with DC as much as I have GW. You will definitely catch me using my UPass to explore every stop on the Metro, trying new foods at Union Market, or painting by the Georgetown waterfront! I would love to show you the best spots on campus (and DC!) and help you transition into a chaotic first year. Trust me, I KNOW how stressful applying to colleges can be, and I'll be here to offer advice and guidance in any way I can!

Describe your college experience

I LOVED GW!! GW was honestly a safety school for me and I enrolled with the intention of transferring out, but I fell in love with campus during my first semester. This is my first time living in a huge city and I find myself enamoured with the Metro system and the diverse array of activities to do on and off campus. Everyone here is so unique and I couldn't have had this experience at any other college. Every day was something new and my life really couldn't get more interesting. My professors are engaging and my peers motivate me to push myself out of my comfort zone to levels I didn't think I was capable of.

Tip for future students

I wish I knew to get in on club action early!! Many clubs require applications and you need to search out those deadlines or else you'll miss them! I recommend visiting ALL the booths at Org Fair to see everything campus has to offer. Make sure to keep all your deadlines organized so you don't miss any opportunities---I can't tell you how many amazing positions I missed out on because I didn't have an organized deadline tracker! My most important piece of advice is to put yourself out there!! College is the time in your life to try things you never thought you'd enjoy or were never brave enough to try. Join a new sport, make a new friend, and shoot your shot at an internship or club opening!

Favorite class

I absolutely adored my Comparative Constitutionalism class. It focused on how countries acorss the world use different forms of constitutionalism to structure their government and legal systems. It made me question the optimal structure of our constitution and whether our current system is truly the most efficient, or if it is just what is familiar.

Career goals

I am still caught between pursuing law school to study intellectual property, workplace arbitration, or constitutional law, or doing something policy-related at a government agency or non-profit. Definitely some form of grad school.

Ideal way to spend a free night

Hanging out with my friends on one of campus's open rooftops! I loved chilling on Square 80 right behind my freshman dorm (Guthridge Hall). We would usually play a couple of card games and share some gossip before going to Carvings for midnight mozzarella sticks.

Favorite spot on campus

The Strong Hall rooftop was my favorite spot to retire to for a relaxing evening. I only discovered it during my freshman spring semester and I wish I could've enjoyed it longer while I still dormed close by. It had a perfect view of Square 80 overlooking picnicking students, soccer matches, ping-pong, and the occasional band performance.
