Currently on the pre-medical path at Virginia Tech as a Biological Science major
Hello, my name is Autumn Thornton and I have just finished by first year at Virginia Tech. I am studying on the pre-medical path in the College of Science with a focus in biology. I strive to become an emergency medicine physician, and Virginia Tech has provided so many opportunities to achieve this. I love to bake, crochet, and travel with my friends and family outside of school. Virginia Tech has allowed for me to enjoy these hobbies with a variety of people.

Describe your college experience
The transition into college was overwhelming at first, as there were many moving parts to consider and being truly independent meant I had a lot of responsibility. As the semester went on, I found myself in the groove of things and enjoying my classes and peers. While I was learning how to become an adult, I felt the comfort of my community and am looking forward to staying at Virginia Tech.
Tip for future students
I wish I would have realized that you don't make friends in college the same way you do in high school. While there are more people in your classes, it is harder to have a deeper connection with those that you meet. Having said that, don't feel the need to become everyone's best friend -- but instead focus on enjoying their company and collaboration while learning.
Favorite class
My favorite class has been my biology class during my Spring 2025 semester. Not just because it is the main focus of my major, but I had an outstanding professor and really started to feel like myself and make friends.
Career goals
I hope to attend medical school in Virginia to continue my pursuit in becoming an emergency medicine doctor.
Ideal way to spend a free night
My ideal way to spend a free night would be to cook dinner with my friends, watch a few movies, enjoy a cup of tea and read late into the night and then fall asleep whenever I want to.
