Connor - Purdue Engineering Student - Highly Involved, Business Owner
Hey! My name is Connor, I’m from Dayton Ohio, and I’m a junior in multidisciplinary engineering here at Purdue. I’m a non-traditional student, in that I take slightly less credit hours than most students, because I own a business and work full-time. I’m also involved with several clubs on campus, the startup community here in town, participate in intramural sports, and was previously an athlete on the rowing team. My time here is pretty balanced between a rigorous academic schedule, social activities (sports, clubs, events), and I definitely enjoy going out on a Friday or Saturday night! In addition, I do have a chronic illness, so I’m quite familiar with the disability resources here on campus. I’d love to share anything I can about my experience.

Describe your college experience
In high school, classes came easy to me. Easy A student, didn't really have to try. After getting to Purdue, that definitely changed. I learned how to study, and things aren't easy, but it isn't overwhelming either. Even though classes are hard, there is definitely still time for relaxing and being social. Purdue engineering has kicked my butt at times, but with a little extra effort, every class is passable, and here we say "C's get degrees"!
Tip for future students
It's okay to take time off! Do an internship, travel, study abroad. Enjoy your time here. Unfortunately, while you're on campus, time flies. So make the most of it! You won't be able to do everything, and that's okay! Just put your best foot forward, ask for help when you need it, and put an effort towards learning HOW to study. Purdue engineering takes grit and good time-management, and your study tactics from high school may not work here. But it's totally worth it.
Favorite class
My favorite class has probably been my first year entrepreneurship course. It was taught by my favorite professor, the class was a ton of fun, and I had a great group of classmates. I've maintained a relationship with that professor, and the class helped me do a lot of career exploration.
Career goals
I'm still figuring it out. I have aspirations to continue building my business, but part of me wants to work in government or join the military.
Ideal way to spend a free night
An ideal night for me is spending the night out with friends, capping off with a movie, and being in bed early.
