Commuting Information Science major converted to on-campus enthusiast.
Hi! My name is Jahmal and I’m an Information Science major with a minor in Business Analytics! As someone who has experienced many different types of classes, organizations, and even housing, I have a lot of great things to say about everything: from dining halls to electives! It didn’t take long at all for this campus to feel like home to me. My favorite thing so far are the people—and how much the right people can completely change your college experience! I’ve met a lot of great people through clubs and programs, especially from a professional business fraternity that I joined. There’s lots of ways to get involved on campus and meet new people. Take it from me—someone who went from a commuter with 16 hours a week on campus and no involvement, to a full time campus resident with a lot more presence and even more experience!

Describe your college experience
College was a struggle because of the new environment and commuting to school didn’t help. It was easy to get involved, however, and by the end of my sophomore year I’ve had some amazing experiences and connections!
Tip for future students
Joining a club that aligns with your personality is a great way to meet people. Always introduce yourself to at least one person in every class because you never know when that connection will come in handy. Your dorm is primarily of sleeping so if you can find another location to study, eat, or socialize, then do that.
Favorite class
EDSP311 is connected to the TerpsEXCEED program where students become peer mentors for students with intellectual disabilities and it’s so fulfilling!
Career goals
I want to work at a tech firm as a data or business analyst with an emphasis on agentic AI.
Ideal way to spend a free night
I like to play video games with close friends, go to the gym, or go see a movie!

Favorite spot on campus
My favorite spot on campus is Tawes because of the weekly farmer’s market and there is a courtyard on the roof.
